  • Abstract Most of the virtual roller coaster models currently on the market have omitted the important factor of player empathy in the first person, namely the player’s avatar. The objective of this study is to explore whether the game content will affect the virtual experience after omitting the player’s avatar, which in turn makes players unable to continually immerse themselves in the virtual reality experience. In the study, the factors that may affect the experience other than the player’s avatar were excluded. We adopt the laboratory experiment method with the experimental group and control group designed for the presence and absence of the player’s avatar respectively using the Samsung Gear VR head-mounted virtual device and the scenes of the self-made roller coaster. Thereafter the immersion degree of virtual elements is measured by means of game experience questionnaire. The sample of the experiment is selected according to the age of the population from the report of Chinese virtual users in 2017, where the experimental subjects are mostly office workers from technology companies. Finally, the immersion dimension values of during-game experience are compared and analyzed. The results show that the player’s avatar has significant impact on the immersion experience during the game, and the immersion with the player’s avatar is higher than that without.
