  • Abstract This thesis presents a half-bridge LLC resonant converter for large scale LCD TV power supply. The circuit configuration consists of a boost converter for power factor correction and a half-bridge LLC resonant converter. The PFC circuit operates in continuous current mode to achieve a high power factor and reduces the input current harmonic. The transfer function of the LLC resonant converter can be obtained by using the circuit impedance, ratio of resonant inductance, and quality factor. With proper selection of the resonant tank and modulation of the operation switching frequency, the proposed circuit can achieve zero voltage switching (ZVS), stabilize the output voltage, and then reduce the switching loss.
    In addition, the operation modes and dc characteristics are discussed for designing the resonant tank. A prototype of a 480W-LLC resonant converter having a high power factor with AC input 110V~230V and DC output 66V/7.27A is constructed. Experimental results of the ZVS prove that the proposed circuit can achieve the requirements.
