  • Abstract A dual-band CPW-fed circularly polarized antenna is presented. Two branch grounds of the CPW are connected to form a large aperture and the signal line of the CPW is extended to form a monopole within the aperture. In this scenario, one CP band can independently be excited at the 5.2/5.8 GHz band by loading the monopole with a slit. Furthermore, we found that another CP band at 2.4 GHz can also be activated by embedding a slit-loaded triangle patch on one corner of the aperture. The reason to use a triangle patch instead of a square patch becomes clear considering that the low-band operation requires a large perturbed area. With the slit-loaded triangle patch, not only it can physically avoiding touching the monopole but also electrically providing the required CP band at 2.4 GHz. Base on the measured results, the low-band impedance bandwidth is 700 MHz (2~2.7GHz) and the high-band impedance bandwidth is 700MHz (5.2~5.9GHz). The 3dB axial-ratio bandwidth for low-band part is 100 MHz (2.4~2.5GHz) and for the high-band part is 800MHz (5.2~6.0GHz).
