  • Abstract COMSOL, a multiple physical quantities coupled with numerical analysis software, is adopted in the acoustical analysis in the thesis. The primary purpose of the research is to analyze and design the spiral tubes mufflers by adding baffles, extended tubes, perforated tubes and sound absorbing material.
    The thesis includes two parts: (1)An assessment of the acoustical performance for the spiral tubes muffler. Here, the acoustical effect of the pitch、the diameter of the internal extended tubes and the quantity of internal baffles will be discussed. (2)A best allocation of the muffler with an spiral extended tubes will be explored by using the artificial neural network in conjunction with the GA optimizer.
    Consequently, the spiral tubes muffler is designed and improved by using the COMSOL during the optimal process. With this analysis, the relevant effects of geometric dimensions with respect to the acoustic performance and targeted frequency will be recognized.
