Keyword SSD Virtualization VMMARK VMMARK Virtualization SSD Abstract In the recent year, the rapid development of semiconductor makes more and more people have their own personal computer and more company have their own server. Those computers are powerful but we do not use the all resources from the computers. So many company use the virtualization, they wish the server resources can be use more efficiently. But it is hard to know all systems performance. So the VMware Inc. provide a standard benchmark called “VMMARK”, it is a whole system benchmark, the company can use it to test the performance of their own system.
This paper uses the VMMARK to compare the SSD and HDD performance in the enterprise system. By using the mail server, e-business simulation, Web 2.0 simulation and the virtual machine deploy and moving, we can get the whole system scores. When testing, we only change the SSD and the HDD running the VMMWARK for ten times. We use these data to compare the cost and performance. The cost of the SSD and HDD, we search the price from official website and calculate the cost per GB.
Final test result shows the SSD performance is 17 times greater than the HDD performance. If we see the module individually, the maximum SSD performance is 540 times greater than the HDD performance. And the cost of SSD is more expensive than the cost of HDD. Compare to the performance between SSD and HDD, the SSD is in a reasonable investment.
