  • Abstract The electric speed adjustable cruiser propulsion system is presented in this thesis.
    This system consists of synchronous generator, isolation transformer,
    three-phase rectifier, motor driver, propulsion motor, and propellers.
    In the proposed scheme, the diesel engine drives
    generator to produce electric power for two sets of motor which drives propeller to
    propel the ship moving forward, backward and turned around.
    The dynamic characteristics analysis of the electric motor includes soft
    start, forward, reverse, stop and urgent reverse in this thesis.
    The dynamic response of
    the speed-adjustable propulsion under various dynamic operating conditions
    are simulated by using Matlab/Simulink. Furthermore,
    in shipboard system the stability and equipments of protection are estimated
    avoiding unstable system affected safety of power equipments. Therefore electric motor
    and propulsion driver could be chosen in accordance
    with the analyzed characteristics and simulation results.
