  • Abstract This thesis presents a 1-V CMOS quadrature voltage-controlled oscillator designed for WLAN 802.11a. Three digital bits are use to provide coarse frequency tuning to the QVCO from 5.45 to 5.65 GHz. A current drive bulk is employed to improve the linearity of fine tuning. As a result, the QVCO can be designed with a small VCO gain to ensure low phase noise and good spur performance under a low supply voltage. The QVCO is designed for a 0.18-?m CMOS process and operated at 1-V supply voltage. The simulated phase noise is -108 dBc/Hz at a frequency offset of 1 MHz. The QVCO dissipates 16 mW and occupies a chip area of 1.5 mm2
