The chromatography was performed using a Phenomenex Luna C18 column. Sample was eluted at 0.20 ml/min with a mobile phase containing 55% acetronitrile with 2mM ammonium acetate and 0.5% formic acid. Some important parameters affecting Liquid-Liquid Extraction (LLE) efficiency such as extraction solvent and salt effect were investigated and optimized. Weak acid is the better buffer solution and the better extract solvent is diethyl ether. Overall mean recovery of 94% was observed for monacolin K. The concentrations of four ready-made nutritional supplements from red yeast rice were analyzed base on the developed method in this study. The result showed that the measured concentration of monacolin K had lower 11.17% to 54.47% comparing to the label concentration in two products. Advisor Committee C.Will Chen - advisor
