  • Abstract PEM fuel cell is a device that could convert chemical energy to electrical energy directly. It has the advantages of high-energy conversion efficiency, high environmental compatibility, low weight, and low operating temperature, so it is suitable for every king of mobile power device.
    The object of this thesis is to fabricate the proton exchange membrane fuel cell and then test its performance where the active area of the membrane is 14cm×14cm single cell and 14cm×14cm short stack, respectively. PEM fuel cell assembled in bipolar plates, current collector plates and MEA (Membrane Electrode Assembly).
    The effects of different operating parameters on the performance of proton exchange membrane fuel cell have been studied experimentally using pure hydrogen on the anode side and pure oxygen or air on the cathode side.
    Experiments with different fuel cell different cathode and anode humidification temperatures, different operating pressures, different bolt torque and different oxidant of these parameters have been carried out.
    Above all, the experiment and analysis of a serial of parameter through, the result shall be the key factor which conduce and affect a character of PEM fuel cell. These results of experiment also provide a reference of fabricate short stack by them.
    The experimental results are presented in the form of polarization curves, which show the effects of the various operating parameters on the performance of the PEM fuel cell.
