By explored and analyzed operating performance and psychological effect, this research aimed to establish the interface design references for middle-age people. Specific purposes are summarized as follows: 1. Investigate the user needs and usability problems of middle-age people. 2. Utilize simulation interfaces and given operation tasks, analyzed the impact of the interface operating forms to the operating performance and psychological effect for middle-aged people. 3. Establish the interface design principles and references suitable for middle-age people.
There are two stages of this study: first stage, use questionnaire survey and task operating to explore the the user need and middle-aged people current using situation, then sampling the simulated interface elements. Second stage, preliminary investigation summarized that the switching between menus are very important, hence this research probe into the menu with preview function, designed two kind interfaces of different preview function: “whole pre-show display” and “half pre-show display”, and exist interface “non pre-show display”, utilized PDA displayed simulating interfaces.Then estimate the performance of tasks operating, workload indicators NASA-TLX and SUS subjective feelings analysis.
The result of this research: 1. Menu providing pre-show function indeed has better usability to middle-age people. 2. Half pre-show display provide the previewing of last and next item, has the best operating performance and usability. 3. Whole pre-show displays has worse operate performance than half pre-show display, it put all items on the screen,let older age people can complete control over the interface, the shortage is spending relatively more time.
