Title Analysis of Hyaluronic Acid in the Commercial Drink and Cosmetic Products

  • Abstract Carbazole method was employed to measure 5 cosmetics containing hyaluronic acid. Concentration of glucuronic acid in the hyaluronic acid can be measured by carbazole method. Among the 5 cosmetics, the content of hyaluronic acid are 2.27 μg/mL, 85 μg/mL, 207.76 μg/mL, 286.6 μg/mL, with one sample revealed no color reaction. We also analyzed two hyaluronic acid containing drinks, one from Japan and the other from domestic, the hyaluronic acid concentration is 2819.4 μg/mL and 1263.4 μg/mL respectively.
    Carbazole method can also be used to measure pectin which contains galacturonic acid. We purchased one commercial product and analyzed the pectin content. The results suggest that pectin may be used by producer to pretend hyaluronic acid.
