  • Abstract The term “probiotics”, introduced in the 1970s, was defined as microbial food supplements that beneficially affect the host by improving its intestinal microflora. The health-promoting effects of probiotics include maintenance of a normal intestinal microbiota, increase in nutritional value of foods, anticarcinogenic activity, reduction of serum cholesterol levels, alleviation of lactose intolerance and stimulator of the immune system. 6G-fructofuranosidase from Xanthophyllomyces dendrorhous is able to convert sucrose into neo-fructooligosaccharides (neo-FOS). Neo-FOS comprises neokestose and neonystose, which are important prebiotics. In this work, three chromatography supports (glass bead, cellulose, Capto-gel) containing amino or diethylaminoethyl groups were used for partial purification of fructofuranosidase and the efficacies were compared.
