Results showed that short duration (＜15 min))at 1450℃ (accomplished by isothermal heating and cooling ) left glass on the sapphire surface as transparent glass after thermal coating. The 9754 glass showed good infrared transmittance. After coating with glass, unpolished sapphire surfaces became smooth, and the infrared transmittance of the sapphire reached about 80%. In additional, the flexural strength increased, to reach the valves of sapphire with all polish sapphire surface. However, the CaO in 9754 glass can easily react with Al atoms in sapphire and crystallization “CaAl12O19” occurred. Because of CaAl12O19, the sample will become misty.
