Title A Study of the Multiplication-free Binary Arithmetic Coding for H.264 CABAC Entropy Coding

  • Abstract In this thesis, a new multiplication-free look-up table is proposed for the H.264 Context-based Adaptive Binary Arithmetic Coding (CABAC) engine. The original (K,N)=(4,64) look-up table of size 256 (4×64) is replaced by a new table size of 512 (4×128) with (K,N)=(4,128). A more efficient binary arithmetic coding engine is achieved to result in lower encoded bitrates using shorter encoding time. On average, bitrate saving of 9.81% and encode time saving of 14.22% are observed with consistent picture quality.
