The characterizations of the coated layers obtained from different conditions have been evaluated on their cross sectional microstructures, X-ray diffraction patterns, element distribution profiles, hardness and wear resistance.
The experiment results evidenced that the coated layers derived from the dual treatment were composed of chromium nitride, Cr2N, coexisted with chromium carbide, Cr7C3. And the wear test revealed that the friction coefficients of the coated layers were highly elevated under the dry abrasion condition although they performed the excellent wear resistance.
