Title A DUAL FREQUENCY ANTENNA WITH A COPLANAR PATCH AND A RING

  • Abstract In this paper, a method for dual-band operation of coplanar microstrip ring and patch antennas is presented. The patch is placed inside a rectangular ring. A coupling strip located between the rectangular ring and the patch is used to excite them through a 50 Ω coaxial cable. Prototypes of the proposed antenna designed for WLAN operations in the 2.4 and 5.2 GHz bands were constructed and tested. The proposed feed method not only provides a compact design for low frequency band but also provides a high frequency operation. Furthermore, we add a air layer behind the FR4 substrate to enhance the gain of the proposed antenna. Finally, we can achieve 5dBi at both the low and high frequency.
