  • Abstract With the rapid development of Internet, computer crime happens as various applications are introduced. How to enforce computer security while using Internet technology is becoming a topic worthy of rigorous research. In order to cope with the worsening computer crime, there is a hi-tech crime squadron established under the Criminal Investigation Bureau, responsible for the investigation of computer crimes. In the legislation, extensive regulation of computer use is given to curb computer crimes. Since many businesses are devoted to the development of security systems, the market of information security is growing rapidly. In this paper we explore the mechanism for preventing a special kind of come crime, Phishing, where they cheat to steal users’ passwords by means of forged Web sites. With several case studies we illustrate its modus operandi and the crime tools they use. After describing the characteristics of Phishing we come to the idea that one-time password (OTP) is adequate for preventing from it. The procedure for generating one-time passwords is also introduced. An online bank H currently offers such a service of generating one-time passwords using an offline generator.
