Title Effect of CAD Rotation Rate of CrZrN/EN Duplex Coatings on Characteristics of Copper Alloyed Ductile Iron

  • Abstract This study utilized electroless nickel (EN) and cathodic arc deposition (CAD) technologies to treat the 1wt% Cu alloyed ductile iron substrates. First, EN was used as an interlayer, and then (Cr,Zr)N coatings were deposited by using a CAD method. Farther, the effect of rotation rate for CrZrN/EN duplex coatings on wear and corrosion behavior was investigated.
      Coating morphology and structure were analyzed by using SEM, XRD, and TEM. Moreover nanoindention test, residual stress measurement, wear test, polarization test, and immersion test were all performed for understanding coating properties. The results showed that EN is an amorphous structure while the (Cr,Zr)N film is a multilayer type with a F.C.C structure. Ductile iron after the monolithic EN or/and CAD-(Cr,Zr)N multilayered treatments have better wear resistance and corrosion resistance as compared to uncoated one. In particular, the condition of EN/(Cr,Zr)N duplex coatings at 2rpm could not only increase the adhesion, but also evidently improve corrosion resistance in 3.5wt%NaCl and in 10vol%H2SO4, respectively. Simultaneously, the friction coefficient has reduced from 0.80 to 0.38.
