  • Abstract In the 21 century, medical science and technology improve very fast day by day, so the requirements for the precision of medical equipments are more and more, the doctors need to depend on the accurate instrument then they can make the clear judgment.   
       According to the requirement, the thesis describes how to develop the endoscope which is suitable for the medical system today. Unlike the traditional monochrome and low resolution medical endoscope, our design emphasizes the high definition, high resolution and high ratio of video compression: the video image is captured by 5 mega pixel CMOS sensor and the resolution is up to 720P (1280x720), the average data rate of compressed video is 910.7 kbps and the frame rate is 30 frame /sec. 
       In the design, we use the Texas Instruments DM355 SOC, Micron 5 Mega pixel CMOS sensor and many peripheral devices, with MPEG-4 CODEC and Linux OS, to implement the professional medical endoscope.
