Title MEASUREMENT STUDY OF DVB-H RADIO CHANNEL AND ITS MODEL ANALYSIS

  • Abstract The Digital TV broadcasting (DVB-T) has been already commercial operation in Taiwan and the mobile TV has been popularized as well. Since the mobile wireless communication network technology develops so fast, it becomes a kind of trend which uses the mobile terminals to watch the TV program. The DVB-H technology is an extension of the DVB-T standard which transmits multimedia services over digital terrestrial broadcasting networks to handheld terminals. It has low average power consumption and high mobility, it also improves the impulse interference of DVB-T. By the way for TV anytime, TV anywhere and Free to view, we can find the multi service and business opportunity.
    There are five groups which carry out the mobile TV trial in Taiwan now, and the service coverage including Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung. In a complex environment, the channel fading follow the path loss and shadow effect. The radio wave will raise the refraction, reflection and scattering because of the block of buildings and it will generate the multi-path phenomenon and the penetration loss when penetrating the buildings.
    The main purpose of this research is for the study about the DVB-H signal efficiency in the wireless channel. We measure the DVB-H signal from the CTS transmitter at the Zhong-Liao Broadcasting Station focusing at the DVB-H service area (Kaohsiung) than it is to have a mobile testing and collect the DVB-H parameters, which are in channel electric field strength, B.E.R and M.E.R values. We can use the statistic model to understand the wireless characteristics and prove the radio channel model in the different environments. This measured data of Kaohsiung should be the good references for the other broadcasting operators or terminal providers developed in the future.  .
