  • Abstract In this thesis, we explore the evaluation methods of transmission quality by TDR response of interconnections. A predictive method for determine Eye Closure through the important elements of Extinction Ratio (ER) and Timing Jitter (TJ) that we propose doesn’t require extensive time domain simulation and can be used to analyze the transmission quality of HDMI cables and connectors. While another method for feeding a pulse train into the SPICE model and finding the Eye Diagram through the use of Microwave Office has been proposed, our method, by adding series resistors at the end of the SPICE model, tries to take high frequency loss into account. The resistance needed can be estimated by the Q factor of the output response. Using our method, the estimation and prediction results closer matched those of measurements results generated by Data Generator than those of other earlier proposed. S-parameters also play an important role in evaluation of transmission quality. A method using TDR waveform transformed into the frequency domain for S parameter analysis has been proposed. We are proposing a method that using the voltage waveform variation across the trace, the unneeded parts of the trace’s waveform can be removed. This method can be used in ridding of the measurement fixture’s addition to the measured waveform.
