  • Abstract For the past few years, most building fire incidents are low-rise residential buildings from the government statistics. This study was aimed to evaluate the factors of fire hazards of low-rise residential buildings and to propose the strategy of prevention and control. Three steps were conducted :(1) analyze the building code、 regulations of fire department and the statistic of fire incidents last five years;(2) design the questionnaire and conduct the surveys by interviewing the experts and (3) perform SWOT analysis and obtain the strategy matrix. Factors affecting the fire hazard of low-rise residential buildings are the excessive combustion materials in the room and electric shortcut. Mitigation strategies include the setting of extra fire alarm systems and minimization of storing flammable materials.
