  • Abstract Construction of intelligent living environments has been a trend in
    recent years. These environments share the characteristic having an
    integrated hidden information system in them. Capable of automatic
    detection and interaction with people, such a system can make immediate
    and appropriate responses to the multiple varieties of human behavior.
    The objective is to develop the ideal humanistic living space.
    Over the past years, many researchers have extended their theories
    to apply in various related aspects in life, such as health care,
    environmental protection and energy saving that have been valued more
    and more. Under this tendency and assuming that the user can fully
    comprehend messages from products with this type of purposes, this
    study has established a product design mode that can effectively influence
    the user’s behavior.
    Based on user behavior influencing theories and techniques, this
    study has analyzed related operating principles and modes and
    established a “user behavior influencing product design mode” by

    conducting an experiment aimed at reducing the voice volumes of library
    users and to eventually devise an experimental product able to detect
    voice volumes, make corresponding responses and quantify the results to
    prove the viability of this mode. During the experiment the users were
    able to receive and comprehend messages delivered through simple and
    abstract manifestations that stimulated the sense of seeing (LED lights
    coming on in order) and the sense of touch (vibration). This outcome is a
    confirmation that the user behavior influencing product design mode is
    effective and feasible.
