  • Abstract Taipei MRT Network successful operation has been for about 20 years. However, "train passing through the residential building vibration problems" continuously bothers maintenance department of MRT Company. The current solution for reducing vibration is to increase the frequency of rail grinding which would cost a lot and reduce the service life of rail. The application of high vibration isolation base-plate on non-ballasted track in track-vibration-sensitive section may be a cost-effective alternative method.The aim of this study is to evaluate the compatibility of high vibration isolation base-plate with non-ballasted track of Taipei MRT and the effectiveness of vibration and noise reductions. In-situ vibration data were collected and analyzed. The results indicate (1) the vibration of concave surface of tunnel decreases 3.7~17.6dB which fulfills the design requirement,(2) the improved building vibration meets the requirements of ISO 2631-2 base curve multiple coefficient of 0.25 and threshold of 55dB for human sensibility and (3) average improved 12.025dB demonstrates that NBHI would prominently reduce building vibration with frequency higher than 40Hz.
