Abstract |
Religious buildings such as churches and temples are the sacred places where people can perform worship, meditation, devotion or religious study. Some religious buildings are not only religious important, but also famous for their art, structure and architectural design.Recently, due to economic justification and to meet the modern social and religious requirements, many old churches were demolished and rebuilt. Nevertheless, most of the clergies are not familiar with construction works. Thus, these new constructions were performed by conventional design and build systems, in other word, architectural design and construction were contracted separately. Many conflicts were occurred between architects and contractors. As a result, late completion, increased costs, and poor quality were found in these church projects. The aim of study is to compare and evaluate the advantages and disadvantages between turnkey contract and "design and build" projects. The result indicates that turnkey contracting of church buildings has many advantages, such as fixed budget, less construction time, and most of all, peaceful mind of owners(clergyman). |
