  • Abstract The purpose of this research is to test the performance of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) by using carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as the material of microporous layer (MPL) in the anode side. The loading of CNT and the content of PTFE in the MPL have been adjusted and tested their effects on the cell performance. Accordingly, the best composition of anode MPL using CNT and PTFE could be determined. The techniques of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry have been used to test the cell performance. The results show that the application of CNT as MPL material in the anode side indeed may improve the cell performance. The best composition of anode MPL is found to be 1.0 mg/cm2 of CNT loading and 20 wt% of PTFE content.
