Due to the increasing interest in art, many kinds of exhibition and art center were organised and curators become the important presence. When curators and artists are independent from institutions, diverse of art centers provide the platform for independent curators to develop their projects. How to express the art and find out the important factors that attract audience, then evaluate effectiveness of exhibition had becoming the main aim of this reseach. Therefore, this study focused on literature review of curators, exhibition and Chinese ink painting, generalizing display factors up to 18 display elements, and to analyze a specific exhibition.
This research included observing of 17 responses from different backeground and experience of curators, and 54 responses from audience about exhibition satisfication. Using variance analysis to find out that the relationship between curators’ background and experience, professional exhibition status and the importance of display elements. Besides that, this research will also survey the relationship between audience background, exhibition experience and exhibition satisfication. Spearman rank correlation will be using to analyze the idea between curators and audience. Result of this study can be divided into three parts. (1) Curators of planning 1~3and 4~6 times exhibition in one year tend to plan the status of only has display demand. When planning the status of the display object has been specified, curators focus on the identity of the artist, such as the popularity, style and so on. (2) In term of affective, cognitive and psychomotor, audience’s age, education and exhibition experience have significant effect. (3) In the status of only has display demand but the subject and object haven’t decided, the identity of artist, site selection, and set up the schedule for curators are negative correlation with audiences. Due to most of curators and artists are long-term cooperation, they won’t be positive to promote artists background. Therefore, audiences learn and understanding the artists by their works. Curators have important responsible for site selection and setting up the schedule, but sometimes is it will be limited by organizers and markets, therefore the curators can’t make large-scale changes. These changes will then affect audiences’ satisfaction.
Through the verification of the exhibition, the study shows the difference mindset and opinion between the curator and the audiences. Curators can reference to this research result on display elements to improve their basis for planning and evaluation.
