Title A STUDY OF ADAPTIVE EQUALIZER BASED ON LEAST-MEAN-SQUARES ALGORITHM

  • Abstract The adaptive equalizers using the least mean square algorithm is investigated for wireless communication systems. Both linear transversal equalizer (LTE) and decision feedback equalizer (DFE) with least mean square algorithm are evaluated in multipath fading channel model. The influence of some important parameters, such as tap number of the equalizers, and step size setting of the adaptive algorithm, is systematically verified. The convergence speed and final convergence variance of the LMS with different step size is analyzed, and the validity of the theoretical results are verified through computer simulations. In this thesis, we not only study various equalizer algorithms, but also use MATLAB SIMULINK to construct an communication test bed for performance analysis. In this test bed, we can design various modulation and channel coding schemes which depended on their corresponding wireless communication system and evaluate the performance of various LMS equalizers in different channel models. This evaluation can be use to choose a suitable equalizer design for a wireless application. Therefore, this test bed will be a useful tool for the future research on any new equalizer for wireless communication system.
