High spectral efficiency, robustness to channel fading, immunity to impulse interference, uniform average spectral density, capability of handling very strong echoes and less non linear distortion are among the favorite properties of OFDM.
The IEEE 802.11a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) provides several data rates from 6 Mb/s to 54 Mb/s according to different channel quality.
The aim of this thesis is to simulate the physical layer performance of the IEEE 802.11a system and to obtain the BER performance for various data rates in AWGN and band-limited channel channel.
In the further work, this test bed could be modifed to evaluate the performance of WiMAX system which uses the similar modulation and coding scheme as that in 802.11a system.
