  • Abstract Recent years, more and more patients need medical treatment. The healthy examination is important for people. The blood is drawn for medical examination purposes. Sometimes the patient doesn’t need to be drawn too much blood for examination, such like the ESR (The erythrocyte sedimentation rate) would draw only 1cc. The feeling of the hurt during the blood drawing is the time of drawing.
    The development of microfluidic devices has become a popular research topic because of the advantages. They offer over conventional macroscale instruments including lower cost, lower sample and reagent consumption, adaptability for automation, and promise for portable point-of-care devices. With the development of the bioschips, and the increasing the sensitivity of the biosensors, it wouldn’t be drawn too much blood to analyze the result. When the biosensors are integrated in a chip, it calls Lab-on-a-chip.
      This research proposes an integrated blood drawing and separating device. It needn’t draw too much blood to achieve the analyzing. This research proposes a novel mechanism to draw blood without external pump or vacuum tank, the deformation of PDMS(Polydimethylsiloxane) is used to achieve the purpose. The operation process of the blood drawing device with the deflection of the PDMS membrane is to generate the deformation of the volume. The DEP chip is also fabricated, it is in order to separate the cells of the blood.
      For measuring the performance of the device, we also fabricate a PDMS tank as pig’s skin. The result of the pig’s blood drawn is 0.39cc, and the separating chip is also trapped the red cells of the blood. Finally, this research is demonstrated the drawing blood and separating purpose. It wouldn’t draw too much blood to analyze the result.
