Increases in internet usage for sharing and accessing files as well as video and audio streaming have generated large interests in the application of multimedia streaming. Multimedia files are larger in size than other standard files and therefore, require more storage space. However, the current trend of design for mobile devices favors smaller dimensions and lighter weight, compressing the volume of physical space available for storage. As a result, cloud storage has been explored as a promising alternative.
Unlike traditional flash drives, cloud storage allows the user to share and access files instantly through a third-party server as long as internet connection is established. Despite the convenience and greater accessibility that cloud storage offers, the general public is reluctant to use it as the primary storage method due to several privacy issues that storage providers encounter recently. People are inclined to store information in their personal hard drives than uploading to an online server, causing cloud storage to remain as a secondary storage option to conventional flash drives.
This thesis introduces a peer-to-peer transmission mechanism to eliminate the need of a third-party server and to reduce expenses on additional storage space. Users will be able to transfer data using the peer-to-peer mechanism under a complete internet environment.
