  • Abstract It is well known that SUS430 stainless steel is widely used in building materials, kitchenware, and household applications, and also that SUS430 stainless steel has been applied in bipolar plates of fuel cell in recent years. For the use of bipolar plates, it is very important to present the more electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance for extending the service life via some methods of the surface modification.
    In this study, thus, SUS430 stainless steel was used as the substrates, and two types of coating methods, copper plating and cathodic arc deposition (CAD) with the different biases to coat TiCrN film, were adopted to treat SUS430 substrates. The experimental results showed that the use of -200V bias condition to coat CAD-TiCrN film could improve the corrosion resistance of SUS430 stainless steel. In particular, CAD-TiCrN film with copper as interlayer has an evident increase in conductivity as compared to that of without the copper interlayer.
