Title The Effect of Oleic Acid Coating on AZ91D Magnesium Alloy after Micro-arc Oxidation on Hydrophobic Properties

  • Abstract The corrosion resistance and hardness (wear resistance) can be substantially improved by micro arc oxidation (MAO). However, the hydrophilic surface of MAO coating limits its commercial applications in some fields. In this work, C6H18O24P6+NaOH and Na2O3Si MAO were used as electrolytes. different duration and electrical parameters will influence the surface morphologies of MAO coating. It can be concluded that rougher surface will lead to more hydrophilic surface. The more hydrophilic surface will be detrimental to the corrosion resistance performance. The subsequent oleic acid treatment can modify the hydrophilic surface into hydrophobic surface. The results show that the water contact angle can be enhance from 20° to 121°. In addition to the modification of hydrophobic property, the corrosion resistance can also be further improved by oleic acid treatment.
