  • Abstract Dendritic monomers, G0, G1 and G2, with amino groups and triethoxysilane group in the end were synthesized at first, and then several series of thermosensitive interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) hydrogels were prepared from n-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm), 3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl methacrylate (TMSPMA) and different generations of dendritic monomers by solution polymerization. The siloxane structure of the hydrogel was formed via sol-gel reaction of the triethoxysilane groups from catalysis of HCl(aq). The influences of dendritic monomers and coupling agent TMSPMA on swelling behavior, network parameters, pore size, morphologies and drug release behavior for the present IPN hydrogels were investigated in this study. The results indicated that the swelling ratios and drug-loading amounts increased with increasing of content and higher generation of the dendritic monomers in the feed due to the increase of hydrophility. At the same manner, the network parameters, such as elastic moduli and crosslinking densities, were also increased with the content and higher generation of the dendritic monomers due to the formation of siloxane structure, but the molar mass per crosslinked unit Mc and polymer-water interaction parameter χ showed the opposite tendency.
