  • Abstract The objective of this is to fabricate low-expansion and photomachinable glass-ceramics by sintering of the powder mixtures of Li2O-SiO2 glass and ceramic filler.
    According to the experimental results, the ceramic filler was more resistant to dissolve in glass matrix in compacted samples as compared with noncompacted samples. For the sample composed of 30 vol% and 70 vol%(E/G=30/70), the thermal expansion coefficient can be reduced while the photosensitivity was reduced. The samples with E/G=10/90 were still photosensitive because of the higher content of the LS glass, while the CTE can’t be effectively decreased due to the formation of lithium disilicate which has a high CTE value (110×10-7K-1).
    The CTE values of the samples with E/G=20/80 were between those E/G=30/70 and 10/90. The photosensitivity of the sintered bodies were with the increasing sintering temperature because of the dissolution of β-E and β-S in glass matrix.
