This study presents a query system specifically designed for searching similar sea salinity data. The presented query system has been developed to provide information for experts to study the changes in the sea salinity so they can further explore the weather anomalies. The query system, when given the current sea salinity data, is able to discover the most related sea salinity data in the past years and then display the results on the screen. The user enters the query data through the user interface provided by the system, which next divides the query data into several blocks and then extracts the features from the blocks. After that, the system calculates the differences between the extracted features and the recorded features in the feature database, and then sorts the feature records accordingly to find the most similar results. The experimental results showed the system not only can obtain high search effectiveness, but also can save plenty of search time when compared to some other method.
