  • Abstract In this research, a volumetric three-dimensional display is proposed, the development of which is based on the circular sweeping of interleaved two-dimensional images, each of which represents a cross-sectional sampling of a 3D object to be displayed. Each pixel on the surface of the 3D object sweeping a short distance over the air is considered as a voxel in a three-dimensional space. For the purpose of eliminating the blind spots of viewing, the voxels on the same sampling plane are interleaved in a non-planar manner by a number of dispersed columns of pixels, and realized as light spots transmitted by optical fibers from a LCD panel. When the rotating speed is adequate and the pixels on dispersed columns are timely lightened, the visual perception of three-dimensional imagery can be obtained without blind spots of observation. The realization of the proposed algorithm and the implementation of the associated mechanism prove that the display of three-dimensional objects in circular sweeping way without blind spots observation is feasible.
