In recent years, the market appeared many can match tablets using the thin-film keyboard, although performance better than virtual keyboard, but there are still poor feedback and controlling problems. This research direct at skinny keyboard performance for further discussion and significant effect of feedback is defined as the design factor – buttons thickness (plane, 0.3 mm and 0.6 mm) and buttons material (silica gel, PET matte, and glossy PET). Also, 9 groups of skinny keyboards combine with these two factors to conduct for typing in English. 15 testers are 30 words downward/min for practical level and other 13 testers are 30 words upward/min for advanced level. These evaluative criterions are objective evaluation (with wrong words, and spending time), subjective questionnaire, and NASA-TLX. The result is carried out for input effects analysis by MANOVA, then using LSD method to find the best combination after verify factor analysis with the average. According to the test results of practical testers that is only the thickness has significant in the subjective evaluation. Due to the practical level subjects are not familiar with the operation, they can't use all of the fingers to feel the touch with the change of design factors, so that income is not representative of the results of the practical level. The advanced level subjects in subjective evaluation and mental load evaluation is significant, and find the best match arithmetic average factor combination is the thickness of 0.3 mm and the material of silica gel. Through the learning curve analysis, the optimization of the keyboard can catch up with a physical keyboard input performance indeed with familiar practice. Advisor Committee Chih-Fu Wu - advisor
