This paper assumes that MNE adopts environmental pollution-oriented corporate social responsibility and can choose to enter the landlord country by direct entry or export.
The study found that, first of all, as the degree of marginal environmental damage increases, if the firm adopts environmental corporate social responsibility, the incentives for MNE to choose to enter directly will be reduced. Secondly, when the degree of marginal environmental damage is low (high) and the firm does not adopt environmental corporate social responsibility, the incentives for MNE to choose direct entry are smaller (larger) than the MNE adopt (not adopt) environmental corporate social responsibility. Furthermore, when consumers pay more attention to the environment, the more incentives manufacturers have to adopt environmental corporate social responsibility, however, if the marginal environmental damage is too high, environmental corporate social responsibility will not be adopted. Finally, if the manufacturer adopts environmental corporate social responsibility, the higher the consumer's emphasis on the environment (lower), the higher the incentive for multinational manufacturers to choose to enter directly (export).
In terms of social welfare, when the degree of environmental damage is greater than the degree of consumer attention to the environment, from the perspective of the entry mode of MNE, the social welfare of MNE when they choose to export will be greater than the social welfare when they enter directly. From the analysis of ECSR or not, the social welfare when the firm does not adopt ECSR is greater than the social welfare when ECSR is adopted. When the degree of environmental damage is very small, from the analysis of the entry mode of MNE, the social welfare when MNE chooses to enter directly will be greater than the social welfare when exporting. From the analysis of ECSR or not, the social welfare when the firm adopts ECSR is greater than the social welfare when ECSR is not adopted.
