Clustering has been a popular approach to extend the life of the sensors. Recent work has added another level of clustering hierarchy by assigning a super head to send back all data collected in each cluster to the base station in each round. Following this approach, we implement more role rotation in each cluster and hence reduce the energy consumed in handshaking for building the clusters. Based on a more practical energy model the simulation results shows that our approach provides significant improvement of sustaining the number of usable sensors.
