It takes the questionnaire of the Consumers’ Using Habits of Home electric appliances to investigate the subjective understanding of the subjects towards the auditory signal of the household appliance, as well as the using situation of the household appliance. It then selects 5 appropriate home electric appliances (i.e., air conditioner, electric cooker, washing machine, microwave oven and water dispenser) as the targets for auditory signal study. After that, through literature review, it selects ten kinds of tones which might be suitable for the auditory signal of the target home electric appliances(i.e, Kalimba, Xylophone, Clarinet, Lead2 (sawtooth), Marimba, Sitar, Bright Acoustic Piano, Lead1 (square), Steel drums, Shamisen)，so as to conduct subjective experiment of the matching degree between the auditory signal and the household appliance. Moreover, it also conducts inquiry to the subjects about the matching degree between each tone and household appliance, the impression proof used to determine the matching degree, as well as their preference degree towards the sample tone.
From the finished 91 questionnaires about the Consumers’ Using Habits of Home electric appliances, it can be seen the home electric appliances with highly popularity are washing machine, air conditioner, fan, refrigerator and electric cooker, while those which let the subjects have the impression about the auditory signal are microwave oven, washing machine, air conditioner and toaster.
It totally gets back 62 questionnaires for the subjective experiment of the matching degree between the tone of the signal wave and the household appliance. It adopts Single t Test and GLM Repeated Measures to analyze data, getting the following results. The auditory signal tone suitable for air conditioner is Bright Acoustic Piano and Marimba, washing machine is Marimba，water dispenser is Bright Acoustic Piano, while it doesn’t find out any proper tone for electric cooker and microwave oven. It can be known from GLM Repeated Measures that subjects most use the functional impression of the household appliance to determine if the tone is suitable for it, while least use the appearance impression. We can also know from One-Sample t Test that the Kalimba, Marimba, Bright Acoustic Piano, Shamisen are the tones that the subjects like the most, while Clarinet、Sawtooth、Sitar and Square are the least.
