The numbers of people who work as designers and who are from design school are growing day and night. The communication between designers, their co-workers and customers are necessary, so how to communicate and what to communicate is a big issue. There are three parts in the literature: Procedure of design, Research method and Explanation of terms. The research purpose is about understanding the relation between “thinking activity” and “draft drawing” in design procedure, and the impact to the draft by describing words.
The research aims on the different verbs and nouns used by students from between design school and non-design schoolwhen communicating. It used plotting experiment. A sample needs two samples, “the instructor” and “the drafter”. The instructor needs to instruct the drafter with spoken language to drawing a graphic similar to the one in the sample. In order to discuss the different types of the words and the frequency of the words chosen by the instructors from different background, the members of the instructors are half design background and half non-design background. The drafters are all design background to reduce the variable.
The content includes the chosen sample of pro-research and formal research, limitation of the samples, targets and procedures, experimental verbal codes and reliability analysis in the formal research. There are five types of the words used by the instructor in pro-research, geometry, direction, proportion, abstract and concreteness. There are also five types in the formal research, geometry, abstract, scale, direction and concreteness. In two cases, we exclude the different definition of the five-typed words. In order to discuss whether the deduction comes into exist or not, we added the samples in the experiment and wondered to obtain same or similar analysis result.
Reviewing and revising the pro-research and formal research in the paper. We can get know there are two parts in the summary. One is about differences between design and non-design background. There is scarcely different between the using frequencies of the five-typed words, but abstract and direction words are the highest used words in both of two backgrounds. The instructors in design background can describe a graphic with fewer words than those in non-design background. Even though both the instructor and the drafter are in design background, the rates of progress of the graphicwill not be higher in every case. It needs correct and accurate adjectives and patient instruction to succeed. The other is the drafting conclusion analysis and the suggestions of the words. The abstract adjectives are much more suitable than the concrete adjectives when describing an object. it is good to use direction adjectives in that they can describe the position accurately.
