An adaptive mechanism was applied to adjust the population size according to the changes of search space. The artificial immune algorithm is utilized for structural optimization of truss in this study. The design variables are cross-sectional areas. The objective is to search the minimum weight of truss-structure subjected to the constraints of the maximum allowable stresses of members and the maximum allowable displacement of nodes. The proposed algorithm is revised in this study. For reducing the search space of antibody using 1/5-success rule is introduced. In order to reducing the cost of computation, the termination condition is also revised. Carrying out four truss-structure optimization problem, the results of artificial immune algorithm are similar to Deb’s results.
