The first experiment was to compare the conceptual design (R2) and the current ruler (R1) with 4 tasks. 12 blind people and 12 blindfolded people joined the experiment; it was found that the mean average of total action time of the conceptual ruler was significantly lower than the current one about 10 sec. by the two sample t-test. But the mean average of total deviation of endpoints was not significantly different between the two rulers.
The results and the designs of the new tactile ruler indicate the effective design direction to the field of tactile tool. Through the second experiment, the 3diffrernt type of marks and 3 different types of conditions were compared. Fifteen males and 15 females were blindfolded and they were asked to align 3 different marks on 3different condition in a randomized order.
The ANOVA test found there was no significantly different mean average position deviation average the three marks; but the mean action time of male was significantly longer then female, and also the mean position deviation of female was significantly lower then the male’s. After the two pilot experiments, a new creative ruler was designed (R3).
The third experiment was to test the three rulers (R1, R2, and R3) to verify the effectively of the R3 ruler. The MANOVA was employed and three was no significant interaction effect at the action time and position deviation between the rulers and subject groups. And there were significant different among the three rulers at the mean average action time, the comparison of after effects showed that the R3 had the lowest mean average action time. The conclusion was that new creative tactile ruler the (R3) was the better ruler than the current ruler at action time, and there was no significant differences between the two rulers at the position deviation.
